On the banks of the Lohit
Tezu sits on the Lohit River at a relatively low elevation for the eastern Himalayas, which gives it a milder climate and easier year-round access than higher-altitude destinations in the state. The surrounding terrain mixes forested hills, fertile valley floor, and tribal villages along the riverbank.
The district is home to several distinct communities, including Mishmi, Khamti, and Singpho groups, each with separate customs, festivals, and craft traditions, giving the area more cultural range than a single-tribe destination profile.
