Bomdila is one of the most culturally rich and naturally beautiful hill towns in northeastern India. Located at an altitude of about 2,217 metres in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, it serves as the principal gateway to the Monpa region, the Tawang Valley, and the Eastern Himalayan frontier. Bomdila’s history reflects the layered heritage of this Himalayan borderland. Rooted in Tibetan Buddhist civilisation, influenced by Tibetan, Bhutanese, and local tribal governance, and later shaped by British frontier administration, the town gained major historical significance during the 1962 Sino-Indian War.
